He got himself settled and after a while was able to bring his family across the border. He has the knack for producing beautiful African Tribal Masks. He is able to produce nearly two dozen masks per day and then sells them to the local tourists. He also sells his masks to other vendors that sell crafts in various gift shops in major cities and resorts.

Shoe Polishing Box
There used to be a tradition where on a Saturday a shoe polishing man or child would come to your home to polish all the shoes for the family. That was a source of revenue for some very poor families. Some children used to do it to help their families by bringing in some money. They have a box with a whole kit of materials they might need. Nowadays, there are still some people that do this for a living in one or two parks in some cities.
Pilons
This nice piece is well known around the world. Dominicans use this to crush garlic, pepper, oregano, salt and most of the seasoning of their food. Before companies started processing coffee and cocoa, Dominicans used to have a large Pilon to grind those products. This is a nice piece for your collection since is decoratively hand painted. It is approximately 6 inches high and is carved out of guayacan wood.
Clay Houses
This little house is a reproduction of what would be a typical house in the rural areas of the Dominican Republic. A country person would build his house made of Palm wood and for the roof he would use the Cana, Yagua or Palm tree leaves. This little house would have a living room, a bedroom and a dining room. The kitchen and the bathroom would be constructed separately. Over time this has been changing and nowadays you would not find these types of homes as much since now Dominicans build their houses with cement and cement blocks or concrete.
Coffee Pots
Whenever people receive visitors in the Dominican, even if they are not expecting them to drop by, they will offer to serve them espresso coffee and they will bring it to serve in a coffee pot like these ones represented here. Finely decorated by one of our artisans to make a unique piece of art as a nice souvenir.
Milk Pots
Milk pots were use by dairy farmers to transport milk from their farms to the city to sell it house to house. They used to have a kind of jar to measure that two of them will make a bottle and the price was set by the bottle.
